Jane Smith Boyd

I just saw this sad news today.

Jane was a friend and classmate. She brought her unorthodox take on life to every situation. She pushed me to think more deeply about almost everything. Her lanky frame, her outgoing manner, her willingness to help, her genuine-ness was to me even then remarkable. She had a way of forcing me to see all sides of tough situations. Plus, she seemed to me anyway to do or be part of virtually every school function---plays, skits, teacher-student events, especially sporting events. And, of course, there was her laughter.

I remember at one point when we were seniors thinking how accomplished she was, mostly in her ability to engage anyone, regardless of role or eminence. She seemed fearless to me.

A generous, kind young woman who fell in love and later married another of my good friends in high school.

I know this is inexcusably late, but I just wanted to let the people who loved her now to know that there were others who loved her, in our own way, when she was just beginning her journey in life.

The world has lost a good soul.
