I am so sorry that I just now found out about Jackie's passing. I really liked Jackie and thought of her many time and thought it was an honor to be a friend of hers in high school even though we did not see each other very often after graduation. God Bless her!
I have not seen Jackie since High School yet we have communicated for several years around our birthdays as they were so close. Jackie was unknowingly an important part of my life and played a significant part in my love of mathematics and my career. In 9th grade algebra class Mr. Charles set up a competition and had a class seating arrangement for those ranked first to last based on all testings including pop quizzes. Jackie and I competed for that first chair all year long. The competition was intense, back and forth, and really fueled the fire to study, learn, compete and have fun with it. We became really good friends and we communicated with each other, almost 50 years later, how significant that year and that interaction was in each of our lives. I was getting ready to send her a birthday message when shocked to learn that she passed away (on October 23, 2015) just after her last birthday . I am saddened by her passing and yet very appreciative of the moments in life that we shared. Thank you Jackie!
