I served as a Distinguished Visiting Professor at the US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO from 2011-2013. I am still Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. I served as a Senior ASME Legislative Fellow in Senator Dianne Feinstein’s office in Washington, DC where I handled science and engineering issues. I was Chairman of the Department of Mechanical Engineering from 1996-2002 and then Dean of the College of Engineering. I obtained my B.S.M.E. (1968), M.S.A.E. (1970), and Ph.D. (1974) degrees from the University of Missouri-Rolla. I was commissioned in the Corp of Engineers (Army) in 1968, and eventually reached the rank of Captain. Following graduation and the Army, I worked for Du Pont at the Savannah River Laboratory in Aiken, SC, where I held various technical and managerial positions. In 1987 I became Chief Scientist of the Marquardt Company, an aerospace propulsion company located in Van Nuys, CA, where I worked on the National Aerospace Plane Program. I co-founded and was CEO of Advanced Projects Research, Inc., an R&D company involved with development and application of computational methods in science and engineering. I also taught undergraduate and graduate engineering courses at California State University-Northridge. In 1992, I joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. In 2001, I founded Nevada Energy and Environmental Systems, a consulting R&D company, which we ultimately closed in 2016. I have served on serve on the boards of six companies, and was a member of the Arthur C. Clarke Foundation. In 2007, I was elected a member of the Cosmos Club, which is located in Washington, DC. I have published over 350 technical papers on fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and environmental transport topics, and authored/co-authored eight books on advanced numerical modeling and indoor air dispersion. In 2008, I was awarded the international Eric Reissner Medal for work in computational methods and in 2010 I was awarded the Harry Reid Silver State Medal. In 2011 I was awarded the Distinguished Service medal from AIAA and in 2012 was awarded the AIAA Energy Systems Award. I received the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015 from ICCES. In 2008, I was elected a member of the ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission and was appointed a member of the Board of Directors in 2013. In 2009, I was elected a member of the MS&T (University of Missouri - Rolla) Academy of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineers.
I can still remember the events and circumstances associated with our senior trip to Washington, DC and to the World's Fair in New York. I'm amazed that we made it back alive and in one piece. I recently read my diary that I made of the trip - Doug Bensinger and I lived on slices of pizza for a week.

In high school I did not know him personally>>only from afar. When I walked into a classroom I always looked for him be cause he was one of those smart ones who unwittingly raised the curve for grades. I never held that against him. I respected him for his higher intelligence, and liked him personally. And, he always had that ready smile. Erik. I hope you get to read these comments about your amazing Dad. I believe I was in one or two of his classes in grade school.
You are becoming a senior member of the old man’s club. As per our past discussions, your joints are reminding you that you may want to downgrade to an Associate Member. Congratulations and best wishes on this special day. Three pieces of pie are ok now.
Well, another birthday is it - your collection of these is doing quite well - congratulations. I’ve noticed that I have gotten a little bit stiffer and slower, but always enjoy a good meal, a good laugh, good friends, and good health. Hope you have these, and my very wishes on your special day.
Happy Birthday - on the other side of 76 - I think the curve gets steeper.
Happy Birthday - looks like you have your hands busy with 4 kids and 10 grandkids - that’s almost enough for 2 baseball teams. Enjoy your special day - it’s ok to have two pieces of cake on your birthday - after all, who cares at our age.
Definitely an old man now - Happy Birthday. Enjoy your special day, At this age, you are entitled to have two pieces of cake - after all, what do we care.

Happy Birthday - and Merry Xmas. Which comes first? Best wishes on your very special day (both of them).
Let me guess - starting to slow down a little? I have found that 2 fingers of Scotch remove about 10 years from my age - but must be taken periodically. Happy Birthday.
Won’t be too long before people start considering you an old man - good thing we still have a lot of years before that happens. Now what’s the name of that pill we take at our age for our memory? Wishing you a Happy Birthday on your special day.

Wait a minute - didn’t you have one of these last year, and now you want another? Collecting as many of these as you can is a good thing. Wishing you a Happy Birthday - have you noticed that the older you get, the younger you get mentally - now the body on the other hand….

Happy Birthday - welcome to Club 75 - seems the older we get, the more active we want to become - if only the body would cooperate.
Darrell, very best wishes on yet another birthday. Hope all is well with you and family out in Sin City - guess you guy'z might be getting a new baseball team? Hope they have a domed/AC stadium......
Seems to me that you old timers are starting to get a bit ancient - maybe time to move to three fingers of Scotch. Happy Birthday old man.

Double present day - must be nice - maybe get two masks? Wishing you a Happy Birthday - and a Merry Xmas. Stay safe and well.
Happy Birthday - welcome to the mid 7th decade. Must be nice getting presents just before Christmas, then more a few days later.
So sorry to hear of Sue's passing. She will be remembered. My condolences to the family.
So time for another birthday - thought you had one of those last year - as they say, the more the merrier. Happy Birthday on your special day - might be too many candles on the cake this year so may want to hold off on lighting them - would not want to start a forest fire. My regards to Marilyn and the family.
